Weekend Review – 02-2122-09

I’m just not sure. (I thought about just writing that with no explanation, but figured it would probably be frustrating to you.) I’m not sure where to start or even all of what happened. We had a drummer who didn’t show up, so I had to ask someone to come who only got to sit through about 40 minutes of rehearsal. He did a tremendous job, but we ended up wasting quite a bit of time waiting for the other drummer, we...

Inspiration

We have a Saturday Night Service. This last Saturday night was February 14th. Know where I’m going? No, I’m not talking about the service we did, I’m talking about missing getting spend Valentine’s Day with my sweetheart. So, since we couldn’t do anything on Valentine’s day, we went out on Monday Night, the 16th instead, and it was a good night. Almost 7 years ago, my wife & I had our first...

Weekend Review – 02-1415-09

This is one of those times that Having a Saturday night service really impacted us. Generally speaking it seems to be a pretty convenient time for a large group of our body and the people who serve on a weekend, but when that service falls on Valentine’s Day, it makes things a little bit more challenging. Knowing it would be difficult, I had our secretary start calling two weeks ago to try to find out who would be available. The...

The iPod as a worship tool

Today I wanted to write about a tech tool that I use quite often, the iPod. Of course, not everybody has an ipod, some have other brands of mp3 players, some use CD’s etc. Here’s why I use an ipod (or any mp3 player) instead of CD’s. First, it’s easier to go through a lot of songs. What I used to do was buy a bunch of CD’s, rip them to mp3’s and then load them on my computer. Lately I’ve been...

Creativity Takes Patience, Silence, Time, and …

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about Creativity lately. I know that many of you are a part of creative teams at your churches and you all have your own process for how come to your end result. I’ve been wanting to write what I know about how to utilize creativity in the local church, and have had trouble narrowing down the ideas, so I just decided to start writing and work it out along the way. First, let’s start...

Weekend Review – 02-0708-09

This has been another great weekend.  It’s my “shadow” weekend. Ideally, I’d like to get to the point where this is happening every weekend, but for now, we’re doing it once a month. We had a new acoustic guitarist & a new electric guitarist as well as a new Lyrics person. I would recommend doing this if you don’t. We still have total control over the sound as we can pull the apprentices out of...

Worship Ministry Catalyst Podcast – Episode 0023 – Using non-Christian Musicians in the worship band

Break out the Heresy hat because we’re bringing on the controversy this week on the Worship Ministry Catalyst podcast. In this week’s episode David & Kevin talk about using Non-Christian Musicians in the Worship Band. For too many of us, we just answer “no” without ever thinking about it. But could it be possible that we’re missing out on an opportunity by not keeping an open mind? Listen in to find...

Year End Review – Where I am & What I’m Learning

If you’ve been listening to the podcast, you know that I’ve been talking a lot about this Year End Review that I’ve been working on. I wanted to take some time to let you know where I am in the process and what I’m already learning. I’ve started asking people the questions. I Started with my Worship Leadership Team. Since I have never done this before, (not at this church and not in this way) I wanted to...

Worship songs every church should sing

I don’t know about you, but one of the biggest challenges I face being a worship leader is finding new music. Of course, if new was the only criterion there wouldn’t be any problem, but we have stylistic, theological, song quality, singability, and technichal ability criteria to work into the equation as well. I’ve done a lot of research to see how other worship leaders find new songs, and haven’t really found...

Weekend Review – 01-31–02-01-09

All the stars aligned and worship was awesome. So, I don’t actually believe in the stars aligning or whatever, but in a sense they did. We did almost everything this week that prepared us as wholly as we could for the worship this weekend. I don’t know about you, but for me, it seems like I feel quite regularly (as a worship leader) there is always more I could have done to help us get ready. And it usually shows in some...

Maybe you found yourself in the same situation this last Christmas. If you did, we’d...
