Kevin’s Weekend Review:5-17-09
This week I had another team member leading most of the music. I’ve mentioned before how I’m trying to strategically get others leading and involved in worship leadership; but things are really starting to take off now. My ultimate goal is to only be leading the entire service once a month (or maybe twice). I’ve really been impressed by the need to empower others in leadership and this has been a very big step… it’s a lot of work though!
So, on Sunday I had a young gal who helps out in youth group leading in a “Phase 2″ setting. I have three phases of worship leadership that I empower people with. The first is where I pick the songs and just have the other person leading on the chorus of a couple songs. The second phase is where I pick the songs, but I have the other person leading almost all the songs; including any “wrap-arounds” (welcome, call, challenge, etc.). The final phase is where I have the other person pick out the music and lead the whole thing from start to finish. Next Sunday I’m having one of my leaders to a “Phase 3″ worship service… I’ll let you know how it goes!
In the meantime, here is what we did on Sunday:
- Meet With Me(Ten Shekel Shirt… anyone remember them?)
- Your Love is Amazing (Hallelujah)(I think Brian Doerkson or Scott Underwood; it was originally recorded on the sequel to the Vineyard “Hungry” album titled, “Surrender”)
- Open the Eyes of My Heart(Classic Paul Baloche)
- Jesus, Name Above All Names(old Maranatha tune with a new chorus that my friend, Brian Cheney wrote)
- It is You (Newsboys)
- Mission Focus: Brian and Melanie Stark in Australlia
- Body Life / Offering
- Special: Turn Your Eyes (we did this as a special song because I borrowed a very cool arrangement that isn’t “normal”… from my good friend, Scott Olsen http://www.myspace.com/scottolsenband)
- Message: “Who is This King of Glory” – Hebrews 12
- Who is This King of Glory (Third Day)
You can check out more Sunday setlists at Fred’s blog. See you next week!

I’m very interested in your “phases” of worship leadership. I too really believe in empowering others in worship, as difficult as it may seem some time, it seems like a natural way to help grow the church at large.
