Kevin’s Weekend Review: 5-10-09

I hope everyone had an EXCELLENT Mother’s Day!  When I think about all my wife does for our family–while working a part time job–I wonder why we only give Mother’s one day.  If you are a Mother; hat’s off to you… thank you for all you do!  Even when I think about my own mother and the sacrifices she made for me (taking me to piano lessons; driving me to youth group every Wednesday night so I could lead the worship band; taking me to church early Sunday morning so I could play in “Big Church”, etc.), I realize how much I didn’t appreciate her.  Thank you Moms for all you do!!

Our service on Sunday had a “Mother’s Day” focus.  We’ve been going through the book of Hebrews, and this week we were in chapter 11 (The Hall of Faith).  Pastor Mike made some great connections about faith and Sarah bearing Isaac.  So, our worship set had a lot songs about faith and walking a life of worship in faith.

There were a few glitches along the way… the biggest thing is that two of our stage lights burned out during the service (what are the chances of two going out!)  The whole stage right was so dark; it was annoying.  Then there was some mix-up with the Mother’s Day presents we were giving to all the ladies.  Things kind of fell apart at the end; which was kind of frustrating because we planned so much for this morning.  But I’ve learned those things happen and sometimes you just shake it off and start over again on Monday.

Here’s how our Sunday looked:

  • Awesome is the Lord (Chris Tomlin)
  • Famous One (Tomlin)
  • My Faith Has Found a Resting Place (Great old hymn)
  • Come Ye Sinners(another hymn with great text; we did it like the Robbie Seay Band cover)
  • Enough (Tomlin again?!)
  • Mission Focus: Gideon’s International
  • Baby Dedication (on Mother’s Day… it rocked!)
  • Hebrews 11 Montage (this was awesome; I spent a lot of work on this putting together different pictures that represent the various people in Hebrews 11; we then had some voice overs reading through the scripture… it was super cool!)
  • Message: Living the Adventure of a Lifetime (Hebrews 11:7-40)
  • Mother’s Day Presentation and presents

The music was good and went smoothly, it was more of just the technical stuff throughout the service and some details that fell apart.  In all, I think the Mothers appreciated the service and God was glorified.  To see what other worship leaders did on Mother’s Day, go on over to Fred McKinnon’s blog.
