Kevin’s Weekend Review: 3-8-09

Hi everyone!  I’m writing to you all from my hotel room in Bend, OR (which is about 4 hours South East of Vancouver, WA).  I’m at a conference all week for the NorthWest Conservative Baptist (which is the association my church is a part of) and it’s been great so far!  I’m looking forward to a week of hearing from Dr. Gerry Bresheres on the New Testament model of the local church… it’s going to be awesome!

Speaking of awesome, our service on Sunday was pretty awesome.  I had one of my co-leaders (Ryan) do the entire service from start to finish.  He picked the music, arranged the service order and actually led/executed.  It went really well; Ryan even introduced a song that he wrote, which was very meaningful for our church.  Here’s what it looked like:

  • Instrumental Prelude: There is No One Like You (David Crowder)
  • Welcome / Body Life
  • Mission Update / Prayer for offering
  • Psalm 25 (read during the offering with keyboard in the background)
  • Message on Hebrews 5
  • I Will Worship You (New song that Ryan wrote)
  • Kindness (classic Chris Tomlin song)
  • Take my Life (aka “Holiness”, written by Scott Underwood; made famous off the SonicFlood album)
  • Unchanging (another Chris Tomlin song… GREAT song!)
  • Let my Words be Few (Matt Redman song… another GREAT tune that our church loves!)

Next week I’m having another co-leader do the entire service from start to finish (including picking the music, etc.)  It’s been fun having other people use their creative talents in the service and I think we’re starting to see some of this idea of communal worship.

  1. So you did all of your singing on the backside? Wow–that’s different and I LIKE IT!!!

  2. Yeah, we did all the music at the end (after the message). We’ve done that from time to time; it’s different but also a great way for people to respond to truth. After all: that’s really a huge part of worship; our response to the truth of a Holy God.

The hard thing is that it was Daylight Saving Time that Sunday, so everyone in church was a little tired and sluggish… it might have helped if we did a couple songs in the beginning to engage people a little. But it was still cool doing things different :)
