The sign of a good leader is one that sets the example and puts pressure on themselves to be the best... we need to strive for excellence. We're serving an Awesome God, the least we can do is do our best...

Another important sign for a leader is one that leads... I know that sounds basic, but if you are not leading people when you worship, it really begs the question... are you really leading?

Totally with you on that Dave!

More me putting that on myself than anything. There is a certain pressure from the leadership, but primarily me. And that's for a couple of reasons, we're really focusing on outreach, and I want peoples first impression to be good. The best way to attract quality musicians is to have quality music. Most of all, I believe it's our responsibility to give God the best worship we can.

I was going to ask the "pressure to be good" question too. Is that something you put on yourself, or is it coming from the bosses?

Ed:
What I meant is that my philosophy conflicts with simply filling slots to ensure that each weekend is good. I would much rather be building different bands who are committed to each other, than to just have different random groups of people each weekend. But, because we have the pressure to be good every weekend, I can't really have a weekend where we don't have a decent band up there. I know most churches feel this pressure. I just can't have a band missing a couple of key elements, and start to build that group, I have to substitute in other members of other bands.

Bobby & Gary:
Thanks for the agreement! From my experience, in worship, people want to be led. They like to know they're going in the right direction with you. They like to know when they're getting ready to sing out, that everyone else is going to be there singing with them.

Sounds good.

Yeah, it's great to have a worship leader who prompts the congregation -- really leads them -- rather than just sings.

I agree...worship leading does involve prompting the crowd, or maybe more encouraging and empowering them. That's a very important role we can't forget. Great set.

"But, we’ve also got the pressure of being good every weekend for now, so it’s a choice I have to make."

What do you mean by the above?

We have multiple band members for most instruments, except violin and worship leader.
I'll pray that your rotations work well and that people take ownership.
